What exactly is Yoga?

One word. It comes with many prejudices. And Opinions. What comes to your mind when you think of Yoga? For me it used to be the “Tree-Pose” and how people try to find Balance on their Yoga Mat. Yoga has the potential to be much more than the different Yoga poses that come to your mind or that you might be performing on your mat though. Let me elaborate.

 

 

In its essence Yoga is a practice that can involves Yoga Poses, Breathing Techniques, Meditation and Philosophy. There are many different ways to practice Yoga. Each is completely unique and in the many forms that exists, there surely will be a way to practice that resonates with you. There are different Limbs of Yoga, introducing recommendations to live by. And there are different branches of Yoga, offering quite different approaches to Yoga. So quite a lot to dive into!

 

At the end it comes down to: Why do you want to practice Yoga? What is your intention? Do you want to become more flexible, more stronger or generally healthier? You can surely achieve all these things with Yoga. At the same time there is so much more to the practice and if you choose to you can improve more than your physical health.
